Author, Storyteller, and Explorer of the Human Experience

The Journey of a Storyteller

Honor B. Cole’s journey as a storyteller began long before the stage. Growing up in poverty under Jim Crow and Jane Crow laws in Texas shaped his voice and faith. Trusting in a higher power, he enlisted in the United States Navy to serve his country, see the world, and escape oppression. A Vietnam-era Navy veteran, he later received the Cold War Certificate of Recognition signed by Donald Rumsfeld. He defines success simply: survival. Saving lives in dangerous firefights, surviving medical crises, and overcoming systemic injustice all fuel the powerful, truth-driven stories he tells today.

“I write to understand the world and our place in it. Every story is a question, and every character is searching for an answer that might help us all find our way home.”

The Journey of a Storyteller

Cole’s literary influences span from the psychological depth of Dostoyevsky to the lyrical prose of Toni Morrison. Contemporary writers like Elena Ferrante and Ocean Vuong have also shaped Cole’s understanding of how language can capture both the visceral and the ethereal aspects of human experience.

Beyond literature, Cole draws inspiration from visual art, particularly the work of photographers like Diane Arbus and Vivian Maier, whose images capture the quiet dignity and complexity of everyday life. This visual sensibility infuses Cole’s writing with a cinematic quality that brings scenes vividly to life.
